Sustainability & Corporate Social Responsibility
Accelerate Green Programme
At Croom Concrete we have been in the precast concrete industry in Ireland for 44 years and we recognize our responsibility towards sustainability and community engagement. This report outlines the sustainable practices and initiatives we have implemented within our organization, emphasizing our commitment to environmental stewardship and community betterment.
Sustainability initiatives
Energy Efficiency:
We have invested in energy-efficient technologies and processes to minimize our carbon footprint. In July 2023, Croom Concrete invested in a new solar panel array on its factory roofs. According to company numbers, this allows it to source up to 40 per cent of energy used for production.
Waste Reduction and Recycling:
Croom Concrete prioritizes waste reduction and recycling efforts. We have established systems to minimize waste generation and maximize recycling, so we are reusing all the waste that remains to produce concrete blocks. We have also implemented a recycling system in all canteens and factory yards, thus encouraging our employees to correctly recycle products consumed daily.
Water Conservation:
We recognize the importance of water conservation in our operations. Through the implementation of water-saving measures and the utilization of water-efficient equipment, we strive to minimize water use and promote responsible water management practices as introducing a pipe that captures rainwater and transports it to a reservoir to be reused on our factory.
Eco-Friendly Materials:
We are committed to using sustainable and eco-friendly materials in our production processes. We aim to reduce emissions by using low-carbon cement like ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) which is a by-product of iron manufacturing. Instead of simply being dumped at a landfill, the GGBS is upcycled into a replacement for traditional cement which is normally required to produce concrete. Incorporating recycled inputs and sustainable sourcing practices and employing the most efficient Euro 6 trucks for delivering precast products. We receive our concrete from within 20km of our factory. Not only does this make us immune to worldwide fluctuation, but it also helps to keep transport costs and emission low.
Community Engagement
Local Employment and Supplier Partnerships:
Croom Concrete actively supports the local community by providing employment opportunities and partnering with local suppliers and businesses.
Community Collaboration:
We engage with the community through sponsoring local initiatives as, Croom LGFC and Newcastle West Juniors Golf Club.
Education and Training Programs:
We believe in the importance of education and skill development. We have our doors open to schools and universities and it was a pleasure to welcome the students from Scoil Pól Kilfinane Co. Limerick on 09/11/2023, showcasing the inner workings of our company.
Cause Marketing & Philanthropy
Philanthropic Contributions:
We are committed to giving back to society and supporting charitable organizations and initiatives. Croom Concrete regularly makes philanthropic contributions to Croi na Coille Primary School and Médecins Sans Frontières Ireland.
Cause Marketing Campaigns:
Croom Concrete aligns its marketing efforts with causes that resonate with our values and mission. Through our social media, we have a project to raise awareness and support important social and environmental issues, leveraging our platform to drive positive change.
